Capital Investment
With the increasing influence of share market in Kanpur Nagar, a two-day seminar on Investor Education Protection Fund was conducted by the organisation in Saket Nagar. Specialists from the stock exchange, subject specialists, insurance industry, bank and post office were invited to the seminar to make the people aware of investment issues. The investment specialists provided information on share trading, profit and loss and the precautions necessary while trading shares. About 140 people participated in the seminar.
Eye Camps
In collaboration with the District Blindness Control Society, KSS organises eye camps for free eye check up. The persons with cataract are operated upon and provided with free fooding and lodging. After three day follow up, the patients are provided with spectacles and appliances for eye protection.
In 2007-08, KSS had organised an eye camp in Kalyanpur, in Kanpur Nagar, where 192 patients were examined free of cost. Of these 85 patients were found with cataract and were operated upon. In 2006-07, 266 patients were examined in the camp conducted by the organisation.
Cancer Awareness
KSS arranges for various seminars and awareness programmes for cancer control in collaboration with National Cancer Control Programme. Cancer specialists examine the patients and provide treatment to them. They give related information to the people and distribute medicines without cost. Information on breast cancer is being provided to the women. The people are also being taught on mouth cancer arising with the consumption of tobacco and other related products.
Senior Citizen Assistance Centre
A Senior citizen Assistance Centre is being run in Kanpur to make the senior citizens aware of their rights. They are being informed of additional percentage of interest they can avail from banks on their principal amount and about the rail concession for their age group. They were also advised on police verification of the servants before employing them.
Road Safety
With support from the Ministry of Transport, Government of India, a programme on Road Safety was organised in Transport Nagar in Kanpur Nagar. The eyes of truck drivers were examined. About 50 per cent truck drivers were found to be suffering from weak eye sight and eye diseases. The truck drivers with weak vision were advised to wear spectacles. They were also given the information on traffic signals. A morning rally with school children was also organised to make them aware of the road safety.
National Environmental Awareness Campaign
KSS organised a seminar on environmental awareness at Jalpa Devi Inter College in Kidwai Nagar in Kanpur Nagar. People of Kidwai Nagar along and environment conscious people were present in the seminar. Every person took oath for planting five trees. A quiz competition on environment was organised for the students. Information on noise pollution and air pollution was also provided in the seminar.
Total Cleanliness Campaign
A campaign on total cleanliness was organised in every village of the Maitha block in Kanpur Dehat. Sanitation Club and Parents Teachers Association were formed in the villages under coverage. A children’s rally was organised in which they made the use of boards and hoardings for cleanliness slogans. Street plays were also organised in other villages of the block to spread the message of cleanliness.
